I figure I can only share so much of my imagery on social media platforms before it gets eaten up by the algorithmic processes, so I aim to begin writing and sharing my journey and story on this platform more and more.
I spent two months from January 25th to March 21st backpacking throughout Southern Mexico and Guatemala. It was my first backpacking experience outside of being on the road for the last four years and my first true experience outside of the cultural bubble of the United States/Canada.
Eventually, after hearing only touristic and expensive things about the Yucatan Peninsula while I was in San Cristobal de la Casas, Chiapas - I had decided to cross the border in to Guatemala. I personally didn’t want to pay so much taking the touristic route and I ended up taking the local mini van “Collectivos” from Comitan, Chiapas to the border- walked across and then continued to take the Guatemalan “Chicken buses” to the town on Lake Atitlan referred to as “Panajachel”. It was the perfect challenge for me to witness how much my own Spanish had grown on the trip thus far.
